After reading another chapter in "On the Banks of Plum Creek" to the kids Isaac leans in and says "Mom, I know why the Ingals couldn't afford new shoes" then he looks up at me with a look of profound knowledge. "the English were over-taxing them".
I explained the different eras with a little history lesson. As a side note Isaac has his mind set that he wants an American Revolutionary War birthday party because as he says "I LOVE the American Revolutionary War!"
